Nations are born in the hearts of poets; they prosper and die in the hands of politicians." This statement by Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal truly reflects the story of the fledgling Pakistani nation. Thirty years of relentless efforts as a poet, a respected statesman, an honest politician, a successful lawyer, a forward-looking jurist, an outstanding philosopher, the spiritual guide to his people, and a visionary; Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal ignited the spark of self-awareness among the Muslims of the Indian Subcontinent. His idea of a separate homeland, based on the "Two-Nation Theory", was truly owned and internalised by the people. He almost single-handedly created an environment that infused deep-rooted passion for freedom and liberty amongst the youth. The Muslim masses of the Indian Subcontinent, imbued with the philosophy and thought of Allama Iqbal, set on a course that became a harbinger for the creation of Pakistan. Only Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal had the insight and inner-calling that convinced him to approach Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to take charge of the affairs of the Indian Muslims. Jinnah was that charismatic architect who converted Allama Iqbal's vision into his life's mission, steered the struggle for independence to success and thus Pakistan was birthed as a nation state. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's thoughts remained in perfect unison with the vision of Allama Iqbal. On March 23, 1940, following the passing of the Lahore Resolution, i.e. the Qarardad-e-Lahore, the words of Quaid-e-Azam, as spoken to Matlub-ul-Hasan Sayyid, shall forever stand in testimony of this certainty: "Iqbal is no more with us, but had he been alive, he would have been happy to know that we did exactly what he wanted us to do". After the death of the Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, we as a nation miserably failed to accomplish the mission of our founding fathers. The aspirations and message of both Iqbal and Jinnah were criminally forgotten. The diabolical forces of "Malukiat" (Dictatorship & Sham Democracy), Mullaiyat (Scholars Devoid of Understanding of True Islam), Khanqahiat (Pseudo Sainthood) and Darbariat (Sycophancy) joined hands and cast their dark shadows across all segments of our society. The culture of bribery, corruption, greed, inefficiency, injustice, intolerance, militancy, nepotism, sectarianism and violence unceremoniously permeated societal and state structures. The beloved dream and hope of Pakistan as a viable progressive state subsequently shattered. The people of Pakistan have long awaited a time when the dreams seen at the time of its creation come true. Is this a farfetched notion? No. We, as a nation, are in dire need of revival of the national vision espoused by Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. If Allama Iqbal's thought and vision showed us the way to freedom in the past, they can undoubtedly lead us out of the present dismal state of affairs. The philosophy and thought of Iqbal must, for this purpose, reach the masses. In fact, the path to the real Spiritual Democratic Pakistan is only attainable by adhering to the teachings of Iqbal, accentuating upon the element of "Ijtihad", i.e. the unbiased pursuit of empirical and theological knowledge, and instilling the spirit of creativeness amongst the youth. Dabistan-e-Iqbal, established by the family members of Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, has planned and resolved to fulfil this forgotten mission. We all are the guardians of the intellectual and philosophical legacy of Iqbal. We resolve to spread the message of Iqbal, in its truest possible spirit, to all segments of the society of our nation, for its implementation, and join Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal in saying: "O Lord, I pray that Thou vouchsafe to them The power of vision that Thou hast given me"
